About Us

For over 30 years, Conservancy members and supporters have been working with their friends and neighbors to bring the San Dieguito River Park, a protected natural river corridor with countless natural and cultural resources and recreational opportunities, to an exciting reality.

  • The Conservancy partners with the Natural Resource Conservation Service, Mission Resource Conservation District, and the San Dieguito River Park to remove invasive plants and restore native habitat critical to the survival of wildlife and preserving the quality of our water supply. San Pasqual Valley, Bernardo Mountain, Lake Hodges, Del Dios Gorge, Fairbanks Ranch, and the San Dieguito Lagoon are focal points for this work.

  • The Conservancy spearheads major nature and environmental education projects throughout the watershed, including the San Dieguito Citizen Science Monitoring Program. Citizens interested in learning more about the River Park’s abundant resources conduct bird, mammal, botanical. and other surveys. In the first two years, the program has grown from 80 to over 200 citizen scientists!

  • The Conservancy is leading the San Dieguito Watershed Explorers Program, which brings youth from all areas of the County to the River Park to enjoy the outdoors while learning about the value of a healthy watershed ecosystem. Students engage in water quality testing, mammal tracking, hiking, identifying plants and wildlife, and learning about the history of the San Dieguito River Valley.

  • Over 45 miles of the planned 70-mile Coast to Crest Trail have been opened to the public. Significant progress has been made on closing the remaining gaps at Santa Ysabel, Pamo Valley, Santa Fe Valley, and Osuna Valley thanks to donations made by our supporters. The completion of the Coast to Crest Trail is imminent!
